VENUE

Fishery Falls is a small village on the Bruce Highway, 30 mins. south of Cairns and 15 mins north of Babinda, home of the famous Boulders waterhole.We enjoy a tropical climate with a Dry season and a Wet season. Temperatures are cooler in our Dry with days in the 20 degrees c and nights rarely lower than 15 degrees c. The surrounding area is abundant in wildlife, birds and butterflies with tropical rainforests on the surrounding mountains and green cane fields. The Mulgrave and Russel Rivers are a short distance away, perfect for fishing, croc spotting or going out to the Reef and outer islands.There are several waterholes nearby that are safe to swim in all year round. Accommodation is just a stroll away at Fishery Falls Holiday Park and the Hotel, which also serves meals and has a Coffee Shop.

FACILITIES

Studio 8 is housed in the old Town Hall in the centre of Fishery Falls, with the Gallery out front and the working studio at the rear. Although small, the open aired studio (which takes advantages of the colling breezes) is fully equiped to cater for all aspects of kiln formed glass. Facilities include 5 kilns- the largest 2Ms long, the smallest 300mm square- which allows scope for a variety of projects from jewellery to large panels and casting. There is a dedicated wet area with cold working tools including a commercial linisher, a diamond bansaw and bench saw and a lamp working area.The space is comfortable for upto 8 students at a time at the work tables, with small numbers ensuring personal tutoring. You will be welcomed by Jude and Paul as well as Bullseye, the guard cat and Wal & Marg, our chooks! We are really a serious working studio, not a show pony and have been established in the far North since 1992. We look forward to your company in 2010.
