In this workshop you will learn how to apply the traditional method of layering glass paste thinly onto the walls of a hollow mould to form mini vessels or 3D forms. Over 4 days we will investigate model and mould making techniques enabling you to individualize each piece you create.

Using different grain sizes will allow us to create both opaque and translucent glass in blended colours. You will learn how to include other pre-made glass components & inclusions into your pate de verre piece, lost wax casting, negative & positive molds and glass grinding.

Each student should be able to create 2 or 3 finished pieces.
Students should wear covered footwear (no thongs, sandals) and bring safety glasses, notebook and pens. All materials, equipment and morning/afternoon teas & coffees will be supplied. (Bring your own lunch or see catering options.)

Topics covered include:
• Glass preparation
• Model making
• Negative molds for waxes
• Lost wax technique including individualising and additions
• Refractory molds
• Filling molds or glass paste application
• Firing schedules
• Cold working techniques
