FUSING & SLUMPING

This workshop builds on the experience gained in beginner classes of basic fusing, but is still open to learners who are willing to play “catch up”. Skills learned in previous class will be expanded upon. In this workshop you will learn to turn a flat fused piece of glass into a bowl or plate. The finished bowl or plate will be more adventurous in design and the students will be introduced to more advanced techniques in fusing and slumping. Learn how to texture glass, use crushed & powdered glass, stringers and have fun with inclusions between layers of glass. You will first fuse 2 or 3 pieces of glass-( Fusing – joining pieces of glass together by melting them in a kiln ending in a flat piece of “fused” glass). These flat pieces will then be slumped, draped or sagged to form bowls, plates or vases. Some pieces may need to be collected in the morning of the 4th day due to firing in the kiln overnight.Students should wear covered footwear (no thongs, sandals) and bring safety glasses, (prescription glasses OK) notebook and pens. All tools, materials and morning/afternoon teas & coffees included in cost. (Bring your own lunch or see catering options.)

This workshop is a fun introduction to glass fusing. No previous experience in glass is necessary. You will learn how to cut and fuse glass in a kiln (melting pieces of glass together to form an object) The simple projects will have you creating glass jewellery, light catches, "flat critters", wind-chimes or plaques. There will be an opportunity to create several small pieces. As the glass will not come out of the kiln on the same day, you will have to arrange to pick up your creations the following day, or have them posted to your home address. Students should wear covered footwear (no thongs, sandals) and bring safety glasses*(if available prescription glasses OK), notebook and pens. All materials, equipment and morning tea or coffee will be supplied. (Bring your own lunch or see catering options.)
This workshop is designed to give beginners with no experience a fun introduction to fusing glass in a kiln, (Fusing - joining pieces of glass together by melting them in a kiln ending in a flat piece of "fused" glass). It is a stepup from the 1 day introduction, expanding on fusing techniques. This level workshop does not include slumping, all projects are flat, not shaped into 3D. We will be using float and compatible coloured glasses, (Bullseye glass) specifically made for fusing. 2 or 3 projects that can be (mostly) taken home will be created during the workshop, such as tiles, drink coasters, door, wall or house-name plaques, wind chimes, jewellery etc.. The 2 separate firings will be at different temperatures to show the variance in glass fusing techniques. Day 2 firings will not be available to take home, they can be collected the next day or posted to your address. A great introduction into the exciting world of warm/fused glass, no experience necessary! Students should wear covered footwear (no thongs, sandals) and bring safety glasses (Prescription glasses OK, some safety glasses can be provided), notebook and pens. All tools materials and morning/afternoon teas & coffees included in cost. (Bring your own lunch or see catering options.).
Dates for workshops are for the first 4 months of 2011 & will be updated througout the year for future months.

This workshop is for anyone that has ever just wanted to make their own hand made glass bowl or plate on fast forward. The workshop will not be so technically orientated, just getting you to your goal. The first day you will cut and construct your design on the kiln shelf which will then be fired (fused together by heat), ready to be slumped the following weekend. If time and kiln space permits, there will be the opportunity to create 2 pieces, a bowl & a plate? You will be guided through the workshop by Jude, who will be standing right behind you to offer advice and answer all those niggly questions. Any technical information will be provided re firing schedules et. if requested. Otherwise, just bring your designs and have a fun 2 days creating your glass masterpiece! Pieces will have to be picked up the following day or posted to your address (it takes 24 hours in the kiln before the glass can be removed)
