This workshop is designed to give beginners with no experience a fun introduction to fusing glass in a kiln, (Fusing – joining pieces of glass together by melting them in a kiln ending in a flat piece of “fused” glass).
This level workshop does not include slumping, all projects are flat, not shaped into 3D. We will be using float and compatible coloured glasses, (Bullseye glass) specifically made for fusing. 2 projects that can be taken home will be created during the workshop, such as tiles, drink coasters, door or wall plaques, wind chimes, jewellery etc.. The 2 separate firings will be at different temperatures to show the variance in glass fusing techniques.
A great introduction into the exciting world of warm/fused glass, no experience
necessary!
Students should wear covered footwear (no thongs, sandals) and bring safety
glasses, notebook and pens. All tools materials and morning/afternoon teas
& coffees included in cost. (Bring your own lunch or see catering options.).
Day 1:
• Glass cutting and breaking techniques
• Quick fun test pieces (showing properties of fused glass)
• Designing flat fused glass
• Cutting and assembling project one—a relief firing
• Firing project one
• Viewing fun samples
Day 2:
• Cutting and assembling & firing project two—a full fuse coaster, sun catcher or wind chime
• Discussion project one
• Grinding and finishing techniques
• PowerPoint slide show on technical and safety aspects of warm glass
• Making frit, circle cutting, texturing glass
